Mae C. Jemison is one of the only female astronauts, as well as a pioneering woman in science.
In 1992, Mae Jemison became the first African-American woman to travel in space when she went on a mission aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
She is now a retired astronaut and works as a science and technology consultant. Jemison has also been active in promoting STEM education for girls and minorities.
In 2011, she founded the 100 Year Starship organization, which is working to develop the technology needed for humans to travel to another star within 100 years.
Jemison’s career as an astronaut was not her only claim to fame.
She was also a medical doctor and served in the Peace Corps before being selected by NASA to join the astronaut corps.
Jemison has said that her experience as a medical doctor helped her to be a better astronaut, and that her experience as an astronaut has helped her to be a better doctor.
Today, Jemison is using her experience and expertise to help others achieve their dreams.
She is proof that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and work hard.
