5 Female Comedians To Watch In 2022 [& Where To Watch Them]

Nicole Byer

Nicole Byer is currently all over the place – and for a good reason: she’s one of the funniest people out there, male or female.

She took the things about her that most people would find tragic: being obese and single in her 30s and turned it into something that is full of joy is bound to put a smile on your face.

You can follow her quest to understand why she’s still single in her weekly podcast – Why Won’t You Date Me that comes out weekly on Team Coco, Conan O’Brien’s podcast network.

One of the funniest bits of the podcasts is when Byer in the opening segments keeps coming up with hilarious and disgusting things people can do to her and she’d still date them.

She’s also has another podcast with her best friend Sasheer Zamata, Best Friends as well as hosting the hilarious Nailed It!

Don’t let the title fool you, though, it’s not about nail polish, but a show that keeps finding out how delusional people can be in the kitchen (and in life).

Taylor Tomlinson

Taylor Tomlinson is one of those comics that just has a knack for making you laugh.

She has a great delivery and timing, and her material is always on point. She’s also not afraid to take on tough subjects, like relationships and body image issues.

You can tell she’s a comic who really cares about her craft, and it shows in her performances.

If you’re looking for a good laugh, definitely check out Taylor Tomlinson. You won’t be disappointed.

Hannah Gadsby

When it comes to comedy, Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby is in a league of her own.

She has a unique, dry style that makes her stand out from other comics.

Gadsby first rose to prominence in 2006 with her stand-up show, “Dogmatic”. Since then, she has gone on to tour internationally and appear on multiple television shows.

She tackles difficult topics such as mental health, sexual assault, and sexism.

Her 2018 specialNanette” became not only an international success, but also a moment in international comedy. It’s not just a stand-up special – it’s also an admonishment and reckoning with comedy, sexual assault, minorities place in comedy and mental-help.

Hannah Gadsby is a must-see for any comedy fan.

Hannah Gadsby’s new comedy show, “Douglas”, is currently touring Australia. In it, Gadsby tackles her life with Autism, and is able to show the humor in it.

If you get the chance to see her live, I would highly recommend it. If not, you can catch her on Netflix. or read her memoir Ten Steps to Nanette: A Memoir Situation.

Tig Notaro

Tig Notaro’s story is an inspiring one. One that you wouldn’t immediately associate as “funny”.

She was diagnosed with cancer in both her breasts just a few short years ago. However, instead of letting this devastating news defeat her, Tig used it as material for her stand-up act.

She joked about her experience going through chemotherapy and even did a set entirely in her hospital gown.

This willingness to mine her personal tragedy for comedy is what makes Tig so special. She has the ability to make us laugh at the things that scare us the most.

No matter how dark or difficult her material may be, she always manages to get a laugh out of her audience. Additionally, Tig is a also a master of observational humor.

She has a keen eye for the little details in life that often go unnoticed but can be hilarious when pointed out.

She has a weekly podcast “Don’t Ask Tig” in which her and a weekly guest give out advice to people (including people in the past!). It’s one of the funniest comedic podcasts out there.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Tig’s comedy, I highly recommend it. You can find some of her best work on Netflix , or you can read her memoir, I’m Just a Person

Trust me, she’s worth seeking out.

Katherine Ryan

In recent years, Canadian-born Katherine Ryan has become a force to be reckoned with in the comedy world. A staunch feminist, she’s unafraid to tackle controversial topics – and make you laugh along the way.

Ryan is hilarious, and has a unique perspective on the world.

You can find her stand-up specials on Netflix, as well as her own podcast, Telling Everybody Everything, or read her memoir The Audacity: The first book from superstar comedian
